The College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics are happy to welcome you, the 2019 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTA), to the summer orientation program to be held August 11 – 15, 2019, at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. The Fulbright FLTA program is sponsored by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE). Through this program, over 30 languages are taught at hundreds of U.S. institutions of higher education to help increase Americans’ awareness of forgeign cultures and languages. FLTAs from over 50 countries are able to also gain knowledge of the U.S. culture as well as develop their teaching skills.   For more information, visit http://eca.state.gov/fulbright.

The city of Syracuse, located in Central New York State, has a population of approximately 150,000 with a metropolitan area population of 732,117. It is the county seat of Onondaga County and the economic and educational hub of Central New York, a region with over a million inhabitants. Syracuse University (commonly referred to as “SU”), a private university founded in 1870, has 13 schools and colleges, among them the prestigious Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and the SI Newhouse School of Public Communications.
