EMAIL SENT August 7, 2019

Hello everyone!

We hope you are getting ready for a great adventure ahead!  We look forward to meeting you all soon!

A few reminders:

-Make sure that you have completed the Registration Form completely.  You can find it at http://flta.lang.syr.edu. If you did not include your travel information in your Registration Form, please complete the survey fully again once you have received the information. It is imperative that we know when you arrive to Syracuse so that we can have transportation for you to the hotel.

-If you are arriving to the Syracuse Hancock Airport between 11:00 AM and 10:00 PM, there will be a welcome table at the center known as the Grand Hall in front of the escalators. Please check in with us upon your arrival so that we can direct you to the free shuttle that will transport you to the hotel. Please be sure to bring a few dollars to tip the shuttle driver. If you are arriving before 11:00 AM or after 10:00 PM, you can catch the shuttle to the hotel outside of Terminal A. There are blue giant letters that say SYR. This is where ground transportation can be found. There is WiFi at the airport – no password is needed. You can contact us If you are arriving to the Regional Transportation Center by bus or train. Someone will be there with a sign and will transport you to the hotel.

-If you are able to, please sign up for our Facebook page.  The group is called “Fulbright FLTA Syracuse University Orientation 2019.” There are some fun conversations and creative ideas being shared there!  It is a page only for our orientation group.

-Let us know if you have trouble accessing the Blackboard page using the credentials sent to you in a previous email. If you can, try to complete the video under the “Introduce Yourself” tab.  We’d love to get to know you before you arrive! To access FlipGrid to create and post your video, the password is OrangeOtto.

-Make sure you have prepared a small 5 minute lesson for the Microteaching session on Wednesday 8/14.  No technology should be used for this small teaching demonstration.  Keep it simple, short, but effective! There will be about 12 participants in your group from different countries.

-Also think about your cultural performance on Wednesday night!  This is not mandatory and can be done in groups! This is always such a fun way to end the program, and we can’t wait to see your talents and culture!

Finally, the weather in Syracuse is pretty warm and humid.  However, the rooms that we will be meeting in for most of the sessions are air conditioned.  Consider bringing a sweater and dressing in layers so that you are comfortable in all the environments. Also, the two cultural activities we have planned on Monday 8/12 and Tuesday 8/13 will require comfortable outdoor (somewhat athletic) clothing.  We’re going to have some fun!!!

Let us know if you have any questions!

Happy packing and safe travels!

Laura, Maryanne and staff
